After the Grand Compromise: Voter Profiles in Thai Politics
New ISEAS Perspective co-authored with Dr. Napon Jatusripitak
Dr. Napon Jatusripitak and I have a new Perspective piece out for the ISEAS Yusof-Ishak Institute analyzing voter attitudes in Thailand in the wake of the Grand Compromise.
In this article, we argue that Thai voters can be classified in four major categories according to their attitudes towards the conservative establishment and Thaksin Shinawatra. We believe that the populist reformists and the traditional conservatives are the most likely to shift partisan allegiances at the next general election.
In this piece, I draw on interesting data from an original 2023 survey, including this new mapping of how voters in our sample flowed between the 2019 and 2023 general elections.
